Zheng Qinwen returns from injury as No. 7 seed for China Open

(ECNS) -- China's Zheng Qinwen will return from injury to compete as the No. 7 seed in the women's singles draw at the 2025 China Open, organizers announced Monday.

This year's China Open will feature a strong field, with all of the world's top 10 players entered except No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, who has withdrawn.
Zheng will open her campaign in the second round against the winner of the match between China's Wang Yafan and Dutch player Arianne Hartono. She is projected to face No. 26 seed Linda Noskova in the third round. Potential fourth-round opponents include No. 10 seed Clara Tauson, Montreal champion, and No. 21 seed Victoria Mboko and Siniakova.
As one of the top eight seeds, Zheng has been placed in the same section as rising Russian player Mirra Andreeva.
At the 2024 China Open, Zheng reached the semifinals before falling to Czech star Karolina Muchova. She suffered an injury in the first set and fell to the ground.
Zheng underwent surgery on her right elbow in July this year and missed the U.S. Open.
Apart from Zheng Qinwen, ten other Chinese tennis players have qualified for the women's singles main draw of this year's China Open, including Wang Xinyu, Wang Yafan, Zhang Shuai, Yuan Yue, Wang Xiyu, Zhu Lin, Wei Sijia, Guo Hanyu, Shi Han, and Zhang Rui'en.
